What does ANPSO stand for?

Anesthesia Patient Safety Organization.

What is SAFE-AIR?

SAFE-AIR is the Anesthesia Incident Reporting system for ANPSO. It is secure, confidential and a component of the Patient Safety Evaluation System.

What does Anesthesia Patient Safety Organization (ANPSO) do?

ANPSO creates a secure and protected environment for member providers with written agreements in place with ANPSO to report information about adverse events and hazards so learning can be shared and system improvements can be made to achieve safer, more reliable care.

ANPSO fosters a safety culture development by providing education, tools, and other resources to its members.

ANPSO will engage in:

  • Activities to improve patient safety and the quality of health care delivery.

  • Collection and analysis of patient safety work product.

  • Development and dissemination of information aimed at improving patient safety.

  • Utilization of patient safety work product to encourage a culture of safety and to provide feedback in a learning system to assist toward minimizing patient risk.

  • Other activities related to the operation of a patient safety evaluation system and to provide feedback to participants in a patient safety evaluation system.

What is a member?

All participation is voluntary and nonexclusive. Member providers will be offered the opportunity to collect and submit information to ANPSO, to participate in evaluations, and to receive the results of such activities. Decisions as to how to implement or integrate results in provider operations will be up to each member provider. Member providers may participate in other patient safety organizations.

Does it cost money to participate?

Main Street Anesthesia recognizes the important of participation in a PSO and covers the cost of individual provider fees for provider who have a written work contract in place with Main Street Anesthesia.

What are patient safety activities of ANPSO?

Patient safety activities of ANPSO include, but are not limited to:

  • Event Reporting

  • Data collection and analysis for trend Identification

  • Event investigation and analysis to reduce adverse events

  • Root Cause Analysis and share learning

  • Quality Assurance and Process Improvement and Action Planning recommendations

  • Feedback mechanisms for member providers

  • Safe Table Program

How does ANPSO help you?

Being a member provider of a Patient Safety Organization affords all protections and immunities allowed under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act. The protections of the Act are intended to promote a just culture and learning system, by providing a safe and secure environment to discuss the above-mentioned patient safety activities without fear of litigation. Being a member provider of ANPSO allows you an opportunity to be a stakeholder in improving patient safety and outcomes.

What are the protections?

Privilege

As provided by the Act, Patient Safety Work Product (PWSP) developed by a member and/or maintained by ANPSO is privileged and shall not be:

(1) Subject to subpoena;

(2) Subject to discovery;

(3) Subject to Disclosure;

(4) Admitted into evidence; provided, however, such information may be subject to Disclosure as may be required or permitted by law pursuant to § 3.206(b) of the Regulations. 

Confidentiality

Patient Safety Work Product is confidential, and ANPSO shall not disclose it, except as may be required or permitted by law pursuant to § 3.206(b) of the Regulations.

Providers of Main Street Anesthesia may join at no charge. Non-Main Street Anesthesia providers, or facilities, may contact ANPSO for custom pricing and membership opportunities.
